Feral cat appears at an airport office, sparking a 60-mile rescue mission to save a kitty deemed ‘unadoptable’

Nobody knows how a feral cat ended up seven floors up an airport parking garage, but getting her down turned out to be only the beginning of her story.

Little black smoke Bengal Lola had been hanging around an office in the garage for a couple of months before the ASPCA finally managed to trap her. The moment a coworker sent word that she had been caught, her future hooman jumped in the car and drove 60 miles each way to get her. A 120-mile round trip for a feral feline who wanted absolutely nothing to do with people? The CDS clearly picked the right person.

Coming home didn't magically turn this frightened kitty into a cuddle bug. After a vet visit for a checkup and vaccinations, they discovered she wasn't microchipped. She is now, though, because this time there would be no question about where she belonged.

For three months, the space under the bed was basically her entire world. She wasn't ready to trust anyone yet, and her new family let her move at her own pace. Eventually, curiosity started winning over fear, and she finally ventured out.

These days, picking her up is still completely off the table, but petting is occasionally permitted and treats have received a much more enthusiastic stamp of approval. We respect a girl who knows her boundaries and can still be bribed with snacks.

The biggest win might be how easily she fits in with her four feline siblings. She gets along flawlessly with everyone, and one brother even sneaks his ears into the third photo like a proud family member demanding some screen time.

Going from feral garage kitty to treat-loving member of a five-cat household took months, but nobody rushed her. Sometimes becoming family happens one tiny pawstep at a time.

  • It may take some time, but we have a feeling Lola will come around to cuddles before she knows it. She’s already made huge progress from spending three months under the bed to accepting pets, enjoying treats, and hanging out with her feline siblings. Every little step means she’s learning that her new home is safe. There’s no need to rush her. One day her hooman might sit down and suddenly realize there’s a former feral kitty curled up right beside them.

You have to celebrate the tiny wins, whether that’s coming out from under the bed, accepting a few pets, or simply choosing to sit a little closer. There’s no rushing a scared feline into trusting you. But when they finally decide you’re safe and start showing affection on their own terms, all that patience is so worth it.
